Coronary Angioplasty

Coronary angioplasty helps to widen blocked or narrowed coronary arteries. The term angioplasty itself means to stretch open a blocked artery using a balloon. However, many angioplasty procedures require a short wire-mesh tube (also known as a stent) into the artery. This stent is left in the affected place permanently to enable blood to flow more quickly.

Coronary angioplasty has another name in form of percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). The combination of coronary angioplasty and stent is known as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Our doctors make sure to get anesthesia before performing the surgery. The balloon attached to the catheter tube gets placed into the affected artery using X-Ray imaging. After completion, our doctors remove deflated balloons carefully.
